Jose Villegas (Owner of UM USA) was a liar.
I was a rep for UM's "complete line of ATV's, Side-by-sides, dirt bikes, street bikes"... I accepted the job only after Jose promised "face-to-face" that all the units had passed EPA and DOT. Well after 15k miles and thousands of dollars spent on fuel, meals, hotel... His "full line" product was never made available because they had NOT passed EPA.
His dishonesty cost me over 50 THOUSAND dollars.

If any UM owners, dealers or past rep's start a class action lawsuit, let me know.

I talked with a past partner of Jose's this Saturday at a trade show. He said one of UM's last remaining reps got the call and was told they were closing. The rep asked "what should I tell the dealers"?
He was told not to tell them anything.

I own a UM, and I am not concerned.  I do all of my work now anyway as is coming off warranty, and I want to do mods now.

Mine runs like a top and is religiously maintained

But, I am also tired of the name confusion too, and used to own an 09 Hyosung

Wow, that's kind of shocking. I thought that they were doing really well. I just got an email from a dealer in New York..basically asking if I had any idea what was up with UM. UM's been out of business for a month, and they haven't bothered to tell their dealers yet. If this is the way they've been operating, then it's no wonder they are gone, and good riddance.

Unfortunately, as they flight off to Tahiti with their bags of cash under their seats, they'll presumably take their customers' warranty forms and their dealer contracts to dump out over the Pacific Ocean. I really feel for you DualSport, that's just rotten, and hope you're able to recoupe it from other places soon.

For any UM riders out there, know that your 250cc/650cc bikes are 100% compatible with an equivalent Hyosung. There are a few good shops out there that sell these parts online for a pretty good price. Our site, HyosungSource.com, is one, and has the best selection and prices around. Check us out at www.HyosungSource.com For Hyosung parts, gv650 parts, gt650 parts, gt650r parts, etc. (compatible with V2S 650/R/T etc.).

Sorry for anyone who got screwed by this. Remember the name "Villegas" and stay the hell away from these guys in the future. If you get stiffed on your warranty, see it as an opportunity to learn a new skill... Undecided

I bought a 2007 anniversary 650, within 3 days I started having problems that just continued to grow. After seven months of not being able to get the bike running right, and the bike was in the shop for over 3 months off and on. I filed a lemon law complaint with the state of Texas. The dealer I bought it from did not document the problems I was having and when the factory was contacted in Florida, they said had nothing on my bike as far as mechanical problems. Then The dealer I was dealing with had a heart attack and passed away. The next closest dealer was over a 150 miles away in Austin TX. So I took the bike to him to try to get the bike running correctly. It spent 2 months in the shop and was not running right when we loaded it up to bring it home ( was told it had stale gas in it ?? hello you are a repair shop) Finally the State of Texas set a hearing date for Oct 2009. The other side asked for and received a continuance. Another hearing was set for Dec. 2009 again they were given a continuance. Another hearing date was set for Feb 5th 2010 and as we all know now UM closed their doors on Feb 1st. Needless to say the hearing went in my favor especially since no one from UM showed up. But to what avail ? There is no one to contact to payback the original purchase price. And since I went through my bank to finance it I’m still stuck a P.O.S. that I have to pay for. I did contact the dealer in Austin to see if he is still honoring the warranty for UM. You should have heard him laugh. I don’t blame him, I would laugh too if I didn’t have to pay for it.

Please list your problems with the bike.  You never know, they may all be easy fixes - most are.

A lot of the time, problems with bikes are poor dealer setup and pre delivery work not being done.

So please - list and maybe we can help you out  Wink

pops...(a) Your response is a good 3 months late...I was merely poking fun at your "poor old me" diatribe....

(b) It sucks for the UM owners...hell, it sucks to be a Hyo owner. If you own a Hyosung or UM, your first "Line of Defense" is your own toolbox.

Ps...That's who I am.
