RX 125D-E POWER INCREASE
«

Ive looked back as far as i can with the time i have in the previous topics, but have now decided to make my life a little bit easier and list a fresh one, soo.. does anyone out there know any slight mods that can be done to this bike to make it run quicker, im getting run off dual carrage ways for a start so a little more top end would be handy, however any increase in anything is worth while. Cheers oh is it true about you can put a 250 carb in it? difference?

You have 1 side draft carb in the RX125 and the GV/GT250's have 2 down-draft carb’s, also 4 valves per cylinder, so the Hyosung GV/GT carb will not work. If you want more power you will need to get a more powerful engine, like the GSXR125 (around 17hp) or a two-smoke (20+hp).

If you want more top end the easiest way is to go down in size on the rear sprocket and up a size on the front. Trade off is slower acceleration.
Failing that go and buy a faster bike. An early Yamaha DT125LC or an RD125LC should be right up your street.
Don't know about fitting a 250 carb. If it's the case that it'll fit you may need to modify your exhaust to make it more free flowing and get more air into the air box. Don't know if K&N or BMC make airfilters to fit.
Big bore kit to 160cc might be an option but you'd be forking out £600+ I reckon for that sort of mod.
Clip-on handle bars combined with anorexic weight loss is another.
You youngsters! Speed, speed, speed
With regard to getting run off the carrageway, you need to maintain a dominent road position and be boss of your lane. Stay in the centre of your lane and make others go around you. Remember the posted speed limit is not a target. If drivers tailgate you remain at your speed or if safe to do so just decrease your speed by a few MPH, mirror check before doing so. Don't worry about my lecture, I was a motorcycle instructor for several years in a past life.

2 good replies thanks, cant remember where i heard the 250 carb part but am sure someone thought it was possible, but reading the reply it makes sense, im interested that mike mentions the gsxr125 engine as i thought that is what i had already, my engine is stamped gsxr125something something so is that an indicator that it can be loosend up to 17hp? im not in a haste to gain speed as doing more than 30mph i get frost bite with this evening weather but on the dual carrage ways and even main roads people are either passing me at a standstill or eager to push the bike like an idiot in a saxo did the other night, im not silly enough to push my own limits due to someone else but it is keeping me off the bigger roads which i feel i need more experience with ie higher road speeds etc.
anyway thanks for the replies, think ill keep it as it is for now and hopefully pass my test for something a bigger, maybe a 250 0r 450 not sure yet, i do have one question tho kosmic, what time frame would you reccomend for someone to go for there test after a getting a cbt in january? looking at doing the das course. cheers

Ooooooh - lets talk counter steering and rear braking into corners
or even the "Hendon Shuffle"
How about the new M/C test where you have brake and turn at 30mph - then fall off and break an arm or leg - or even the EU meddling in the M/C test or the lack of test centers and the ballooning costs of taking the test.
When you at Boxhill next

The GSXR125 is a Suzuki Engine, has the same pistion and valves as the Hyosung GT/GV250 engines, but the GSXR125 is built in Japan by Suzuki, was imported to Korea and used in the Exiv Motorcycles. DOHC 4 valve head, shim under bucket. Same cam profile as the GV/GT250 engines.
I think your engine has SOHC and rocker arms in the head and 2 or 3 valves.

The Hyosung GSXR125 engine is a 4 valve DOHC shim and bucket, Same as in the 09 XRX125SM. Earlier models have SOHC
I'll get back to you later about your DAS and time frame as I'm in a steaming hurry to go meet up and get beer and curry down neck.

You should be able to get the 175cc piston from a Suzuki in Malaysia.

Hi mate. I know this is an old post but I recently put in the iridium spark plug, raised the needle to the next to bottom notch and opened up the 3rd hole on the airfilter box. The bike has improved greatly. I can keep 100Km´s with the daughter on back in 5th going uphill. I recommend you start there. Next is installing a K&N airfilter.
