I've got a 2006 GT250R and the gear shift is really tight and stiff, it actually hurts my foot to up shift most of the time.
The shift lever itself, the bit you touch, is only a metal rod with electrical tape on it.. from the previous owner.
I've bought a second hand from a bike with 9000k's on it for $15, would I be able to swap it or would I have to get the bike shop to do it?
I'm hoping it's only the shifter itself and not the box.
Any tips to try?

Its pretty easy though. But maybe WD40 in addition will solve the problem?

You should very easily be able to fit the new one. Grease the pivot pointwhen you do. And get some oil or grease into the ball joints of the connecting rod.

Then check your transmission oil. Probably a good idea to change it.
