Vinyl Wraps for your bike
« on: May 03, 2011, 05:55:15 AM »

I'm not sure if I like these.  At first I thought they look cool, but then I started thinking that there is such a thing as too much decoration.

Ignoring the price, what do you guys think about these?

The good thing about vinyl wraps is that
1) you protect the original paint
2) its a blank canvas, it can be as mad or subtle as you like
3) you can have weird colours like gold, chrome, 2 tone etc..
4) its cheaper than a paintjob (if you go to the right places)
5) its removable if it gets tatty or you want a change

The downpoints
1) it will eventually dog-ear at the edges or start to peel away (should last a few years though)
2) if you get a small tear in it the whole panel needs re-wraping to make it look right
4) you cant use any harsh chemicals when cleaning it, so if you tend to get the bike filthy then its not easy to clean!
5) if you dont get it wrapped by a pro it wont last long and may fade if its not laminated correctly!

Overall... its pretty good for people who like to change a lot but dont know a cheap painter!

Me likes!  8) Though I think there are only a select few bike models on which they might actually look good.  How much do they cost?

those are cool, there was a tread about those same skins about two years ago...or was it on another forum?  anyways I prefer paint and tasteful air brushing over any kind of decals ;)
