The easiest way to find out if you have the new style bolts is to look under the top fork clamp. The h/bar bolts is located just behind the control cables, if you have allen head bolts you have the old style bolts, the new ones have a hex head w/flange. Hope this helps...

The new bolts are 30mm long and as they seen to have ran out of the hex head that may not always be correct, mine has the longer Allen heads in it?

Yes - it is mainly the first production run that experienced the issues with the handlebar bolts. The second run they changed the bolts at teh factory and the third most recent production run - they have new bars altogether. Your sister's Anniversary GV650 should be good to go. No worries there.    :D

Thank you for the information.  It's difficult catching up with one another because my sister and I live so far apart, but at least I can rest easier now.

Hi everybody.  Until recently I wasn't aware of this forum.  I'm glad I saw this topic for sure.  Called the dealer that sold my bike to it's first owner and confirmed that they knew about and had addressed the handlebar bolt and torque issue back when he bought it.  I spot-checked and my 06 has the "golden" hex-with-flange bolts.  Glad you are keeping this topic up front for 2nd and 3rd owners to become aware.

Hello Koriders,

This is Toad, the guy the handle bar bolt broke on...

I'm trying to get the word out to everyone that the replacement bolts (the ones put in under the recall) are also UNSAFE!

I am updating the link above that 06geevie650 posted on a regular basis. Today, I called my attorney and got him involved. At this time, if anyone had an incident or knows of a link where someone else has had an incident where their GV650 handle bar bolts have failed...please post in this thread. I'm trying to compile the number of these incidences for legal reasons.

Thank you riders...please be safe!

06geevie650 thanks for posting!

No, I checked with my dealer and we are good to go, he has been dealing with thisw on older models, but the GV650 LE is not part of this.

Or the 08 EFI for that matter.
