Brake Calipers Left/Right
« on: December 21, 2013, 10:11:03 PM »

Are the brake calipers used on the front of the GT250 the same both sides, with different mounting brackets, or are the calipers themselves different from one side to the other?

Thanks.

The calipers are different from one side to the other ( mirror image basically ) , so you can't swap them over ................ the calipers are actually the same on all the bikes ( so the 125's & 250's have the same calipers as my 650 ) ??? ???

Just make sure ( if you buy 650 calipers ) , you stick with the early 2 pots as the smaller bikes still use these , whereas the 650 changed to 4 pots around 2010 ( in UK  ;) ) and these won't fit without an adaptor plate of some kind   :)

Hope this helps Cloud  :D :D

Cheers Baz, much appreciated.

Any idea if the rear caliper will work as a right-hand front? Technically it's on the right...

Holy lateral thinking Batman!

They use the same pads after all, I wonder if they're not the exact same caliper?

Would a photo help?

I suspect this is unhelpful, but I can take better ones if it helps

Tomorrow I'm going to give it a go.

I'm gonna try a rear caliper, mounted to a left-hand side mounting bracket that should just fit, since it's a flat plate of steel. Add the disc. Then I just need the GT250 double hose on there, I'll probably go with braided lines, and I'll finally have twin discs back on the front again.

So how did it go? :)

Went fantastic!
On my way outside I found a bottle of Glenfiddich single-malt.

I'll let you know when I bother to do the caliper.
