speedometer and odometer don't work.
« on: April 13, 2014, 05:50:34 PM »

After changing the battery of my 250 GTI, speedometer and odometer do not work. Speedometer shows constantly 0 km/h and odometer remains at the last value before changing the battery. All the other issues do well. What can I do? Has anybody an idea.

Speedo sensor on the front wheel is either disconnected or broken.

wiring from front wheel sender connects into wiring loom near frame neck on left hand side. Check for loose or disconnected connectors there.

Today I disassembled the old, defective speed sensor. What the hell can break this thing? It is very simple. The front wheel rotates a magnetic rotor in the speed sensor and the electric currents induced in the outer ring represent the magnitude of the speed.  The outer ring with the cable connections is unfortunately cast in plastic, so that one can no longer search for errors there.  I'd like to fix this thing. Someone knows how to do this and what often breaks about it.

I have chewed up three speedo sensors in the 8 years that I have owned this bike. I have replaced almost as many speedo sensors as air filters.
