xequtor,

Curious why you used a 520 front sprocket and a 525 rear and 525 chain?

JTF520 thats the part number but its for 525 chain

After all that I could have changed the belt 6 times. I have to clean and lube my GV250 chain every 500 miles. I would more than gladly trade a GV250 new chain and sprockets for a belt system.   The one on my 2013 883 dinosaur has 18,000 miles on it and looks like new......unless hyo is using a rubber band and is out of alignment I don't see why a belt is not better

I like belt better but 600 EUR for belt and wheels is just too much, its like 1/4 what the bike is wort now, I have 2006 GV650.

I may change to front sprocket to 18 tooth (I have is anyway) to see if its better, the combination 16/44 is not the best for the clearance between the chain and bottom swing arm, the chain is hitting on bumps and sometimes just by driving.

I changed the 16 front sprocket to 18 and the chain is not hitting the swing anymore, I also put some padding/thick tape on the place where the chain was hitting just in case.
I did not put more that 2km with this 16->18 modification so cant justify how the performance is or if after few km the chain wont hit the swing again, will tell after next week.
Also don't know if the 18 sprocket or the padding on the swing and tension the chain stopped the chain/swing interaction but the 16/44 combination with 118 link chain is a bad combination where the length does not matter (I guess)
I think the perfect combination would be 18/46 sprockets to avoid chain hitting swing but cant find 46 sprocket for 525 chain just for 520.

the 18 sprocket I used is JTF1537.18 for Kawa KLV 1000, I bough it by mistake and was about to return it but it turned to be useful and cost about 14 Euro.

you also better make sure when that swing arm goes up and down that chain tension is ok or it will be to loose or will get too tight and snap. you may need to limit the "travel" on the swing arm

My belt broke at 15,000 miles.  I let the dealer look it over, he said it looks like it just decided to snap next to a tooth. He also said he's never seen anyone get more than 20,000 miles out of a factory belt, regardless of tension monitoring. They are just crappy belts.
I did the $180 kit, took 30 minutes to install, leaving the belts guards off rather than modify them. 3500 miles later, no chain issues at all.

Did you have to modify the belt guards or did you just leave them off?

I modified the guards, don't have any pics of it but you have to cut in order to fit the chain.
You can still use the modified guards if you go back to belt.
