How to Clean the exhaust?
« on: January 10, 2007, 01:20:44 PM »

Have got the stock Hyo exhaust.. tried most methods to no avail.  There is like grease and dirty water stained on the outer shell of the exhaust.

Anyone got any ideas?

When you say you've tried most methods - erm, which methods?

Mine's gotten pretty filthy in the past - but degreaser, methylated spirits or even household kitchen-spray (or all three) has always gotten the worst crud off. Sometimes I've had to spray engine degreaser on the underside of the exhaust and let it sit for a good ten or fifteen minutes before wiping it off.

Oh, and I was told to use Mr Sheen on it in the future - it's a furniture polish based on some kind of silicon (I think, never actually looked into it, but it works) - just to give the dirt and grease something to stick to besides the chrome.

I'd steer clear of steel wool. The chroming isnt thick, and it's much softer than steel.

I use a product called 'Citra-clean'. it used to be only advertised on TV advertisements and order over the phone only. But now you can get it in most major stores. only comes in small bottles but it works for me!

Vargr, thanks mate.  I was alittle wary of putting anything else oil based onto the exhaust.  Might try metho and degreaser.

Devilish, is that the stuff they advertised for carpets.

Bet my exhaust is dirtier than your exhaust

And that's one trip to work after cleaning.  Yes shit roads and even shittier weather here in the UK
Think I'll try the carpet cleaner and then the Mr Sheen

No idea mate, My 60 year old female receptionist at work recommended it to get grease stains out of clothing ocassionally, but I tried it on my bike and it's perfect!

it hasn't got any chemicals in it to hurt my bike, but is magic on stains
