A steel trellis frame can't be all that much more to build than the current frame. Yes, it's more welds, but I would venture to guess that labor in Korea is cheaper than in Italy or Japan. A lighter swingarm would help too. The frame and swingarm has to be engineered by someone competent, but there are a number of engineering outfits in EU that will gladly do this work. It will more than pay for itself, you can sell a lot more bikes it you put GT650 on a diet. I would love a GT7XX with increased bore and stroke (whatever is practical without majorly reengineering the existing 650 engine).

Most importantly, IMHO the key to success in US market is treating the customer right. First Honda Civic cars introduced to the US had quality problems too. Fenders that would rust through in a couple of years was one of these problems. Honda took care of all the problems, and got a lot of repeat customers. People bought original Civic back when they were broke students, because it was cheap. They came back to buy more expensive cars later, because they remembered how Honda treated them right when they were young and broke. That's how you build a loyal customer base.

New frame and swing arm are a possibility, maybe with a 180 rear tyre. I highly doubt a bigger engine though.

The new GD250 models look amazing, but I have given up hope of a properly new 650.

Wait till this year's EICMA, then decide if you should give up hope or not, if it's just a face lift, I think we will all give up hope!

It they won't do it, I'll make my own frame and swing arm and start selling it as a kit, LOL.

I'd be interested in dieting the drag bike!

Some inspiration:

I am wondering if this frame will work for the Hyo motor with custom brackets. The engines are similar, so it can't be all that hard to make it work.

All the information you have about this, please?

Was there a 250 version? Are those the wheels from factory? Is that swingarm a Suzuki-alike and if so, possible direct-swap? Anything about tank/tail?
