Running issues and not as fast as it should be
« on: October 26, 2016, 03:53:24 AM »

Recently picked up a 07 gt650r for good money in a nice colour too the orange and black combo. Only has 9000 miles. When I picked it up noticed it wasn't that quick for a 650. Found that the carbs were gummed up and leaking fixed that. After that it started backfiring through the carb couldn't tell which one. Sorted that but to a loose airbox rubber. Then found this site and rejetted my carbs with 142.5 mains in both carbs and 22.5 pilots in both carbs. 1.2mm holes in the smaller holes in the slide and the needles raised. About 8-10 3mm holes in the air filter. Also got rid of the ais system while I was there. Mine already had the blanking plates for some reason but had the hose going into the front carb and a hose going to the airbox. Blocked them both off Also added a wiley co straight through carbon exhaust. This made it a bit better but every now and then it still back fires through the carb and doesn't feel that quick max I can get out of it on a straight road is 122 mph.  Anything else I can look out for? Anything for a bit more power? How often should valve clearances be done on the gt650 engine? Can be quite funny on idle sometimes idle drops and there is quite a serious rattle coming from one of the casings I assume?

So 196 kilometers per hour (122mph) is not quick enough for you? You got to be kidding right? Its a 240kg 650cc cruiser!!
For a nine year old carbed bike that is a bout 50kph (30mph) faster than anything else on the market.

It's just that's I've heard of higher top speeds out of these bikes. Still though the issue with the backfiring through the carbs is still an issue

About 8-10 3mm holes in the air filter.
Are you saying you have about 8 holes in your slide? That could be it??? By memory there are usually 2 there.  I would think 8 would kill you.

No a 1.2mm hole in the slide as per the guide on here. And around 8 3mm holes in the air filter

Yeah i've heard of guys pulling 180 on the 250 but i'm pretty skeptical...unless they ported, cammed, jetted, stroked and 80% blueprinted it...and even then id be surprised if that added 40kmph to the top

Uuuh I'm only 10mph short of that on a "tuned but restricted" GT125R... takes me longer to get there of course.

Max on my gtr 650 '06 is 241km/h on speedometer (-9% ish for real reading).

This was drifting behind a BMW X6M going 240 also :)
