GT650 doesn't idle without throttle/ REPLACED TPS
« on: March 27, 2017, 09:15:44 PM »

Hi guys hope everyone is well

I have spent many hours trying to find an EFI bike with my symptoms with no luck

Bit of context shes a 2012 GT650R EFI 17000kms

Basically 5 weeks was going for a spirited ride down the great oceanroad when a flywheel? Bolt came loose and burnt the stator
Had the bike towed to the mechanic and despite his best efforts they have thrown in the towel with my bike as they cant get an error code

They have replaced the following:
Stator
Flywheel
TPS
Changed oil and oil filter

It is worth noting I had a low speed drop a few months ago where
I was off the road for 4 weeks and had the battery disconnected when installing a new mosfet Rectifier and other bits such as a left clip on bar.

I acknowledge that I did a bad job with the connections between the stator and the new RR (some insulation missing on the wire) but it managed to run fine with no symptoms until this incident.

Currently the bikes still in the shop and I will try to get it back on the road.. The next step is to see an auto electrician to see if he can extract an error code in dealer mode.

Not sure what else it can be I love my hyo (when it is functioning but I'm out of ideas) please help

Thanks in advance

swap it over to carby issue solved.
carbs $100
wiring $50
CDI $75
magneto$75.
$400 and your riding down the road.

asides from the wiring loom (which i doubt unless something catastrophic has happened where u cant see it) the only other thing to change is the ECU really.

Thanks for the reply
That was the mechanic's next step but he kinda felt sorry for me pouring a lot of money into the bike and still possibly not getting it to work,
Can you explain why the ECU would cause these problems

Thanks in Advance

magic pixies live inside of it, sometimes they fight and fall out with each other.
Sometimes they get mischievous and let some smoke out, not always all of it.

i just thought of one more thing you could try before the ECU...... Lambda sensor.

Bell,

What's the symptom? Is it that the bike cranks, but doesn't start?

..if so, then you've mixed up the connection for the crank position sensor and the reg/rec output. They are the exact same shape of connector. Make sure that the wire pair that is blue and green is going to it's matching connector on the loom side. Similarly make sure that the reg rec's output (brown wire and a black wire with a thin white trace) goes to it's matching connector of the same colours.

Hello upside down,

The bike starts easily but will not idle unless revs are kept high
If left without throttle the bike will cut off in roughly 4-5 seconds

The mechanic assured me that the charging system is now functional ..

Cheers

-from your last post it seems like you can drive as normal but only when you are at idle you have the issue???
If that the case I wouldn't see the charging system as the issue. (skip next question if yes)
-Does it do this when you have a fully charged battery?
I would guess if it wasn't charging and the was about dead yes I could see that. but you would see it all over the rpm range.

-have you looked for vacuum leaks?
Look at the intake boots to see if they are cracked. Look closely! once they heat up the rubber softens up some.
There are a few threads of that being an issue.

Hello,

Unfortunately this happens when the bike is cold I dont this it will have enough time to heat up.

Would this still be a likely culprit?

Thank you

run the bike till it's at operating temps. (even if you have to drive it around the block a few times)
then what does it do when idling?
