overhauling a gt650 engine
« on: April 09, 2017, 04:25:28 PM »

Looking to buy a gt650. Bike appears complete but engine is stripped. Don't know what the original problem was but for starters , engine was stripped and parts left in the rain, barrels are rusted and will need a rebore and a set of oversized pistons. Local dealers only keep std pistons. Before I buy the bike I would like to know if parts, prices and info is available to make an informed decision. All and any info is appreciated guys.

It will be cheaper to buy a good complete engine and swap it out.
5 hours worth of work VS. weeks ...months...

I hear you and couldn't agree more but unfortunately there arnt many good used engines around at reasonable prices and there is another gt650 I been looking at that needs a 2nd gear. I enjoy a chalange and don't mind going through the effort , at least i'll get to know these bikes better

Im in South Africa, and it appears that there are only standard pistons available. Does anyone know of alternative pistons in oversizes

I just picked up a SV 650 motor to see what internal parts might be swappable. I'm  most interested in the piston. I believe that are .5mm smaller than ours but that have major upgrades available.
