GV650 Trouble Starting
« on: April 11, 2017, 07:33:14 PM »

Hello, SO I changed the spark plug and the gas tank is filled but I have not been able to start the Bike. I did not start it all winter but when I tried a few weeks ago it turn on but then immediately dies. I put in a new battery a year ago and last fall it started fine with no issues. I also tried to jump start it and it still will not turn on and stay on.
Please help....
What can I do???

What happens when you try and start the bike. What sounds do you hear? What lights can you see? Do the lights die if you press the start button?

I store mine all winter in my garage, with a full tank of gas (to stop condensation/rust in the tank), and use a battery conditioner/charger occasionally to try to keep the battery right, and it starts again in the Spring OK.

The battery has to be 100% and the old gas may have deteriorated - I add a good dose of injector cleaner to the first few tanksful and that seems to even up any rough tickover......

I hope you get it sorted out.

How long has it been since the engine started and you went for a ride?
A year old battery can still die prematurely if not used regularly.
Put battery on external smart charger at no more than 4 amp rate overnight.

My guess is that your Carb is gummed up.
To start it on its own you will need a good battery. But if you gave it a jump it would start(if it could) regardless of the condition of the battery.
