A bit of fur is normal for older engines/gearboxes . Just normal wear and tear .
Start worrying when you see small or large chunks of solid metal on the plug .

I only change the little o ring. The larger one I never felt the need to bother with.

My sump plug has always had fur on it, which I am presuming belongs to my output shaft bearing
Always?! Right from the start? Can I ask what the odo says? I hv never seen any fur on the plug.Atleast not yet.But am a very sane rider.how long before bearing change do u reckon?

This may sound stupid but you do have a magnetic sump plug fitted ?

Just asking the question ;)
It is quite normal to see small amounts of "metallic fur" on a magnetic sump plug .
How many K's on your bike and how often do you change the oil out of curiosity ?

Mine has 65,000 kms.

Yes, fur on the tip of my magnetic sump plug from the very first oil change.

I think I have a tendency to over tighten my chain though. Ive since learned to relax. Literally.

I learnt that my very first chain and sprocket change (too much tension on chain) .....from you  :)
Should be almost touching swingarm (20-30mm)
Thanks .
