GV650 Radiator Fan Replacement
« on: May 02, 2018, 12:33:40 PM »

Hi All.

Im a new member here so please be gentle! :)

I recently purchased my 2006 GV650 Carby model and there are a few things I want/need to do to it, so here is my first question....

Bascially, I noticed the other day that the temperature gauge was rising high, especially in stop/start traffic. I looked down and noticed the radiator fan wasn't running. Later on after the bike had cooled down I have a prod at the fan, and it seems to be completely seized. I cannot turn the fan blade by hand at all.

I started looking for a replacement and they are over 100 and so I started to wonder whether any other fan type might fit, such as SV650 or a universal 7" fan, which are a lot less to buy.

Can anyone shine any light on whether they have had to replace their fan and what they went for?

Many thanks

There should be a small drain hose attached to the bottom of the fan.
This is to allow liquid into and out of the fan.
Spray some degreaser in that sucker and let it soak for a bit then see if you can free things up.
