Help me out, my little Hyo scares me
« on: July 03, 2018, 08:21:38 PM »

Hello guys!

I have a 04 GT250 with 50k km at the clock. Overall the bike is in a really good shape.
But about a week ago she's sharted to make a little "clicking" noise, but only at 4500-5500rpm almost at the "flat spot". The interesting fact in this !!really low volume noise!!(Only hear it with ipon visor and city speed) , it's coming when the bikes get enough warm, after a ~ twenty minutes of riding.

Any idea what could it be ?

Some info:
---------------------
Used Motul 5100 10W40 from 32,000km to 50,000
Now use Motul 7100 10W40 from 50,000 -> now(50,300)
She did it with the 5100, but get more quit with the 7100.(almost unhearable but it's there)
She got a new front tensioner at 47k km.  (Only asked the mech to take a look at it... he changed it... but he said the old one is in good condition too)

The bike in the hot weather about a week earlier before the little noise started, has run a bit rough at high rpm (8-9,000) and was like one of the cylinders made one or two missfires. (Then left the Shell Premium 95 fuel and this thing gone)

She hasn't got any strange noise on deaceleration.

The bike has totally good and pretty well sound at idle. But if u  rotate the trottle -> and u reach 4500 this noise come but way quiter than "on load".

What do u think?!
This ticking noise, at the range of 4,500-5500rpm.
What is only hearable after the bike warmed up totally (15-20 min ride)

Get it hot,  put it a dark place and see if you can see any blue sparks.
If that don't work, start by changing your HT leads and go from there
It sounds like your leads or Coils are breaking down.

Ok i tried sg, because I get this simpton after a spark plug change. I made a test drive with the OLD sparks. Now, this annoying noise almost gone, u have to lean side while ride and listen too hear that noise.

Soo almost unnoticable except u know what was it like.

Maybe ignition coils are dying and the new sparks were too much for them ?

If i have to make a tip, maybe the bike has a kind of preignition ? Because with the old sparks almost no noise, only noticeable (and hardly... but way way lower volume noise than before*) when the bike is hot, warmed up.

Did you drop a spark plug before fitting  ?
A slight crack/fracture in the porcelain will allow the spark to "leak" through the body of the plug.
A Copper spark plug should last a long time and an Iridium will last longer than your bike so the old ones are probably fine .
Just fit new leads and coils with the old plugs .
Auto HT faults are not always easy to find and normally the best way forward to is to change any suspect components in the circuit .
"Normal copper plugs only last about 20,000 miles. However, using platinum plugs can give you 60,000 miles of use. Other types can last up to 100,000 miles."
Right then , we have helped you so now it's your turn to put some pictures up of your bike and introduce yourself at the Korider cafe , at the top of the home page  ;)
