Checked out a GD250R yesterday.
« on: July 18, 2018, 02:32:16 PM »

Took my GT650 in for its first service yesterday (standard 1000km/600 mi first service date). While I was there I got to check out one of the GD250Rs they had in stock. Very cool bike. Felt a bit like the KTM Duke 390. It was a peppy, nimble bike. Surprised not to see more of these out there, though I gather they aren't available in all countries. Certainly wouldn't mind having one to throw around every now and then.

Our dealer only got 2 GD250's for 2014 and didn't get anymore after that, never got the GDR. They had a hard time selling the two bikes they got along with the two GV650's, only the GT650R's sold (snatched one myself of course  ;D ). They haven't gotten any bikes since because first Hyosung became unreasonable asking for a full down payment, and then because there are new rules here and they need to make the bikes compliant.

Sad to say, but I think Hyo gave up.

They developed the GD series at a bad time. They invensted a lot of money designing a bike that legislation changes meant could no longer be sold and it hurt them financially to the point where they quit. To make a Euro 5 compliant bike, they would need to spend even more money on a bike they can only price in the budget arena, starting with a huge handicap of their existing reputation for poor dependability.

They're gone and they're not coming back.

Its a shame cause Hyosung could have had a really well branded motorcycles if they just had the extra 20% in how they marketed and built their bikes.

Things like the GD250N are superb looking bikes that sadly just never made it here :-(

upside-down, are you saying that they aren't building anymore bikes as a whole, or just that the GD series is no more?

I don't think they have for several years. The current 'new' models are IMO just old, unsold stock. 2015 is the last year where I could see an actual identifiable model change.

There’s a big difference between a 2018 model and 2018 manufactured.

Are you sure it’s not a 2018 model bike manufactured in 2015?
