Gv250 ignition trouble
« on: August 06, 2018, 01:01:01 AM »

Hey every body I've had a 2004 gv250 for a bit now but on a ride I had stopped and when u tried to get going again I had no power going to my dash cluster or ignition system when I turned the key so no lights signals or horns I was able to push start it and made it home but after checking my battery it was reading 13 volts and I havnt been able to figure out where the issue is I was hoping someone might have some ideas on what's going wrong I did notice on my tumbler it had a bolt that backed out and left the whole thing loose but that doesn't explain why I have now power when I turn the key with a good battery I'm kinda hoping the ignition tumblers are just bad and I need to replace my lock sets is all

Your bike gets it's power via the ignition switch and if that's not switching , nothing is going to work .
I think that may explain it  ::)

Well after getting the multi meter out and crossing off the ignition switch I roll started it and noticed some power fluxation and figure I have some nasty shorts in my harness especially since my rev meter went nuts as well so I figure I need to replace all the wiring to straighten it out

Ya I knew but couldn't pass up the neat little twin cylinder luckily there is a vendor down in Florida that has tons of parts including complete harnesses

It is a very nice bike when it's running well and powerful to boot .
These bikes are easy to work on with a bit of knowledge so best suited to someone that understands basic electrical and mechanical systems of an automotive kind . They can then have fun tinkering and fixing things .
Happy days  ;D
