Custom fiberglass tail piece
« on: August 29, 2018, 06:52:35 AM »

So I didn't like the way the tail of the bike look after I converted it to a naked bike.  It was too long, and I didn't like the plastic.

So first thing was I cut 8" out of the rear frame, keeping the end piece where the light mounts. I then welded this piece back on the bike, making the tail shorter.

Built a mock up mold of how I wanted the rear to look. Kind of a Cafe racer look.
I also took the locking mechanism from the pillion seat and remounted it under the seat.

Covered the mold in duct tape so the fiberglass would release off the mold, and then I laid a layer of fiberglass on and let it dry. When it was dry I cut the edges to the shape I wanted.

And here is how it sits on the bike, starting to lay on some bondo to smooth it out. This is as far as I've gotten as of yet.

Looks amazing!

You have a good eye for bike customising. Can't wait to see it painted!

I expected to see a comment about welding your frame... I was let down badly.

Looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

I got the piece all sanded and smooth. Going to be drilling holes and setting up my tail lights tonight. Then it's primer and paint time.
