Electric starter button
« on: September 18, 2018, 01:45:15 PM »

Hi guys I have a gv650c, I have a weird situation where when I turn on the bike and go to press the electric starter it sometimes won't start and I will have to fiddle with the kick stand or even turn off and on the bike again, any ideas what this could be?
Also I tried to remove my RR and can't seem to get the screw to come loose RIP.

Cheers guys

Alex

Yeah they have safety systems that mean you can't start it in gear with the stand down unless the clutch is in. Complicated little tangle of wiring. Often goes wrong.

Can the kickstand wiring or whatever get dodgy overtime? It's just annoying when kick stand is up and in neutral it won't start sometimes. Also kickstand when I am in neutral and kick stand is put down neutral light goes off?

Yeah, it's rare to see a bike where it's all still working.

It can be fixed if you're patient and don't mind re-wiring.

Almost certainly a faulty kick stand switch. ..possibly also a bad gear position sensor as well.

Is it simple to replace a kickstand switch?

Follow wires to where you can access them easily and connect temporarily (like with one of these blue block connectors) then you can see if that cures things. Then leave bypassed and be careful to always put the stand up when you pull away, or replace the switch.

I left mine bypassed but then I'm an old guy and not used to side stand switches anyway!!
