A few bits and pieces
« on: December 15, 2018, 01:01:36 AM »

Just doing the initial service of my recent acquisition and have some questions.
1) I changed the oil and filter, found a metal ring on the old filter after I'd already put in the new one and filled up the oil, how big a ****up was that?
2) I bled the front brake. Delicate operation because the previous owners home done paint job included painting, and sealing, the master cylinder ??? I've attached a photo of what I found inside. No question here, just look.
3) The rear drum works but is squeaky as ****, any help or advice on fixing it would be great.

Edit: Also, why can I not upload photos all of a sudden?

Odd. I was able to upload my bike pics straight onto my post.

Anyway, any comments about the piece or the rear brake?

Toxic sludge by the look of it. Got that taken care of though,  just need to figure out what that ring is and how vital it is.

I wonder if they mixed dot4 and dot5?

DOT5.1 is compatible with DOT 3/4, but DOT5 isn't.  5.1 is glycol based, but 5 is silicone based.

Total guess, as I have never seen what it looks like if the two are mixed, but it's one possibility. How would you even fix such a thing though? That shit looks awful!
