No electrics on karion - any ideas?
« on: December 24, 2018, 05:11:14 PM »

So I took the rt out the other day and it lost all power when I turned the lights on. I turned them off, jumped it and rode home. Tried again after charging my battery and I got the same again - it started and shut off when I put the lights on. This time however the bike is completely dead - the solenoid doesn't click in when o turn the key and I have nothing at all power wise - no horn, break lights, ignition etc.

Any ideas? The battery is fine and I've opened/cleaned contacts on the harness... I'm thinking check the starter relay next?

No experience with a Karion :(

Fuses?

..how are you so sure that the battery is fine? It does sound a lot like a battery with a few dead cells.

I have a spare battery I can check with so will try, though its relatively new and appears to be putting out what it should. Fuse is good, rectifier/regulator appears to be putting out some odd readings outside the range in the manual... might be that?

Odd readings ?
Care to elaborate .
Try a 'good' battery to eliminate that first .

I'll have a go in the morning...

Readings from the rectifier were outside the range listed in the manual - I forget exactly what they were.

Seems like you are on top of your bike fault so I'll leave you to it .
Good luck .

Cheers - I think we've found the problem: shorted the solenoid and the starter motor ticked over. Sent voltage to the relay in the solenoid and the electromagnet/relay didn't engage... Looks like it's the solenoid then.

It was a good time to have my father in law over - I wouldn't have gotten that far alone! Solenoid on order- I'll update when it's running again...

Also make sure you have a return (ground) on the coil .
You need both feed and return to energize the coil .

Just to add to what spit said.

The grounding on Hyo bikes is notoriously poor.
